World-leading sportswear company Mizuno is set to support one of the best high performance pathways in Australian sport after being named the Official Footwear Partner of Netball NSW’s Premier League.

The partnership, which also includes support for Netball NSW competitions such as the Junior and Senior State Titles, will see Mizuno provide Netball shoes to Premier League teams in 2019. Since its inception in 2015, the Netball NSW Premier League has been a competition which attracts the best current and emerging talent within NSW. To this day its purpose is to offer a local, elite platform for players and provide bridging opportunities to the Australian Netball League and, subsequently, Suncorp Super Netball. In 2019 the eight founding franchises will again field teams in two separate age groups: Opens and Under 23s. The returning franchises are Central Coast Heart, ERNA Hawks, GWS Fury, Manly Warringah Sapphires, North Shore United, Panthers, Sutherland Stingrays and UTS Sparks.

The competition gets underway on Wednesday 29 May with both age groups playing 14 Rounds of regular season action before the best enter the Finals Series in September. The Under 23s Grand Final takes place on Tuesday 23 September, with the Opens decider taking place the following night, Wednesday 24 September. Tim Underwood, Netball NSW’s General Manager – Commercial & Corporate Partnerships, said he was delighted to have a world-renowned brand such as Mizuno joining the NSW netball community. “Mizuno is a company which is known and respected the world over, and one which has worked with some of the biggest sports competitions and teams on the planet,” he said. “We are very lucky to have a lot of the best netballers in the world coming through our pathways at Netball NSW, and the Premier League is a key component of that. “Because of this it is vital we supply our athletes with the best and Mizuno are definitely among the world leaders when it comes to sports footwear. “They also realise that without pathways there can be no elite product, and their commitment to helping those pathways is greatly appreciated. We are really looking forward to working with them.”

Mizuno Australia’s Head of Sport, Shane Holub said he was equally excited for Mizuno to be joining the Netball NSW family. “We are very proud and excited to be partnering with Netball NSW and the Premier League. Their netball pathway is one of the best in the world as they continue to grow and develop local players for the national stage. We look forward to having some of the state’s best players wearing our netball shoes during the upcoming season. “As we continue to grow in the Netball footwear category in Australia, we see this partnership as a real opportunity to engage with players from all levels and continue to promote the importance of wearing footwear made specifically for netball. “We launched our #MakeTheSwap campaign at the start of the year and it has been really well received. The campaign is aimed at educating players about the importance of wearing the correct footwear, providing the grip and support needed in this fast-moving game and ultimately reduce risk of injury”
