What Mizuno Rugby boots should I be wearing?

It is Important to find the right boots to suit your position and skill set. Whether you’re in the tight five setting the platform for your team or out wide using your athleticism and speed to beat defenders.

Below are three aspects to consider when choosing your Rugby Boots.

Upper materials

Mizuno Rugby boots are available in leather, synthetic or a combination of both, so it is best to pick the boot that best suits your playstyle and the conditions you play in.

Benefits of a leather boot are “feel”, flexibility and comfort. Feel is important for players who kick the ball in general play or take penalty kicks and conversions. The fit and comfort of a leather boot is unmatched by a synthetic boot.

Synthetic boots do an outstanding job repelling moisture in wet conditions. Leather uppers are hydrophilic (meaning they hold water), while Synthetic uppers are hydrophobic (meaning they repel water).

Sprig configuration

Props/Hookers and Locks require 6 studs in the front of their boots and 2 studs at the back. Players in these positions need extra traction in scrums and ruck/maul time.

Loose forwards are more mobile members of the forward pack who use MIX/Hybrid stud configurations, perfect to suit the dynamic nature of the position and balance the scrum.

Backs will utilise 4 studs in the front and two studs at the back for reduced weight and optimize energy. Backs can use Mix or moulded soles depending on surface conditions.

It is recommended to have two pairs of Rugby boots to give you more options on game day and give you the edge.

Width options

Mizuno boots are available in different width options, Standard and Wide, to accommodate your unique foot shape and keep you comfortable for the full 80 minutes.

For example, the Morelia series is generally a Standard fit, so they will feel snugger around the foot. The Monarcida series are a little bit more generous, fitting a wide range of players, and the Waitangi series are Wide fit, suited to accommodate larger foot types.
